Mary was the daughter of William Ferris Calhoun and Limera Esther Tracy, the eldest of nine children.
She married Arthur C Flynn on 14 Feb 1865 in Morris, Connecticut.
Mary and Arthur lived and raised their children in Shenandoah, Iowa.

They had the following known children: Lester Arthur, Sadie Elizabeth,William Ferris, and Helen Adelaide "Nellie."

Prior to Mary's death, she was in poor health for about one year. She
decided to visit her daughter Nellie, in York, Nebraska in hopes of feeling better. Mary died on Saturday 25 January 1910 at the age of 60 of heart failure.
