Arthur was the son of Owen Flynn and Martha Crawford. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1857, settling in Connecticut. On 14 Feb 1865, in Morris, Connecticut, Mary Calhoun and Arthur were married. They had the following known children: Lester Arthur, Sadie Elizabeth, William Farris, and Helen Adelaide "Nellie."
