World War II United States Marine. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division. He participated in the February-March 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima island, and was one of the six participates in the 2nd raising of the United States Flag over Mount Suribachi- an event captured by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal that became one of the most famous and iconic photographs ever taken. Corporal Schultz's participation was not discovered and acknowledged until 2016.
