Ida May Maden, daughter of John and Edmona Elston, was born near Winfield, Mo., August 20, 1868. She was married to Cal H. Maden, December 17, 1890. Two children were born to this union. A son, Leo, passed away in infancy. Iva Fay, the only daughter, survives her mother.
Sister Maden united with New Salem Baptist Church at the age of 19 and continued her membership in this church all her life living a devoted Christian. She was a good home keeper, faithful and thoughtful for her own household; was a useful and kind neighbor.
She departed this life after only a few days' illness of pneumonia December 23, 1917, at her home 3 miles west of Winfield. The news of her death created a shock to the community as no one thought of her being so dangerously ill.
Funeral services were conducted at New Salem Church at 11 o'clock Christmas Day and the interment was in the burying ground at that place. Besides her husband and daughter she leaves to mourn: her father, one brother, four sisters, a number of relatives and many friends.
May His grace be sufficient - O.A. Gordon, Pastor.
