Musician. He was a legendary French guitarist, singer song-writer, noted for putting his poems to music. He gave his first major concert in Paris, performing at the Bobino Theatre in 1953, followed with his debut album, "Songs of Georges Brassens" that same year. Recognized for his exceptional talent of putting the French language and poetry to song, he was awarded the "Grand Prix de l'Académie du Disque Charles Cros" for his album, "Le parapluie"(1954). After a series of concerts, he appeared in his one and film "Portes des Lilas" (1956). By 1972, he had toured all over Europe and released over 30 albums including his 20th anniversary box set album with a complete collection of Brassens' poems and lyrics. In 1975, he was awarded the Grand Prix de la ville de Paris. He gave a final performance at the Bobino Theatre in 1977, followed by a series of farewell concerts which were attended by thousands of fans. He died of cancer at age 60.
