Ford I. Gano, 86, of Keosauqua died at 9:45 PM at his home. He was born July7, 1913 in Sacramento, Ca. to Paul Elbert and Olga Winifred Willard Gano. He married Nellie J. Waddington in 1939. She died in 1965. Later, Ford married Lucille Barnes Farland. She survives. At age 2, he moved with his parents to the Verde Valley in Arizona, where he grew up. He attended college in Tempe, Az. and graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He taught high school agriculture classes in Snowflake, AZ, moved to Mesa, Az. and in 1953, moved to Vam Buren County, Iowa where he had a "Grade A" dairy operation for several years. After leaving the farm, he drove a Van Buren County school bus. He was active in Lions Club, served on the local school board and on Country Lanes board of directors. He was past-president of Van Buren Development Association and served a 4 year term as Keosauqua mayor. He was named Keosauqua's Citizen of the Year in 1985. Ford was twice president of the Keosauqua Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, Lucille, five daughters, Joanne Andrus of Cedar City, Ut, Barbara Lansingh of West Linn, Or, Darlene Raisor of Sevierville, Tn, Kathy Schoeni of Douds, and Cherie Chronis of Lancaster, Ca.; one son, Lyn Gano of Irving, Tx, a step-daughter, Joan Hunt of Winfield, Ia, and two step-sons, Jack Farland of Austin, Tx. and Randy Farland of Provo, Ut. Also, 33 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Jo Partington of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, one sister and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10 at the Church of Jesus Crist of Latter-Day Saints in Fairfield, Iowa with Branch President Art Newman in charge. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Keosauqua. Memorials to Keosauqua Public Library or Keosauqua Family History Center may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 428, Keosauqua, Ia. 52565.
