An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on August 16, 1917 for Edward A. Boone stated that he had died at the home of his son, Dr. Harry W. Boone [August 7, 1917]. Mr. Boone was born in Shelby County, Indiana, May 1, 1848, the son of the late William J. Boone, who had died in February, 1915. The family came from Indiana to Illinois in 1861 and four years later moved to Shelbyville. In the meantime Edward Boone enlisted in the Union army, and served faithfully as a member of D Company, 126th Illinois Infantry. On September 10, 1872, he was married to Miss Alice Foster, and with the exception of one year spent in Cowden, their married life was lived in Shelbyville. Mrs. Boone died in a Decatur hospital, Feb. 19, 1916. Mr. Boone was survived by three sons, namely: Clarence F. Boone, a grocer in Decatur; Dr. Harry W. Boone of Champaign, and Homer Boone of Des Moines, Iowa. There were also five survivors of his father's family of nine children, namely: Benjamin R. Boone of South Haven, Kan.; Mrs. Mary F. Hillman of Mobile, Ala.; Mrs. Jennie Wallace of Shelbyville; W. L. Boone of Lakewood, and W. D. Boone of Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. Boone was a skilled engineer, though in his later years he had turned his hand to various other avocations. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and for many years sang in the choir of the First church in Shelbyville. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and of Cyrus Hall Post. G. A. R. The funeral was held from the home in Shelbyville with burial in Glenwood Cemetery under the auspices of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
