A Sad Accident -- A Child Killed by Being Thrown from a Sled

Last Saturday the two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Blyth, who live on the high prairie, 10 miles northwest of this city, wanting to have a good time sleigh riding, hitched up a colt to a sled and started off. The sled had no shafts or pole, and running against the colt's heels, caused it to run away. The eldest girl was first thrown off, and was not hurt, but the little one, Mary aged 4-1/2 years was instantly killed. The mother was calling at a neighbor's at the time, and Mr. Blyth was at work in Kansas City. The girls had been used to harnessing the horses, and riding over the prairies, and the accident probably would not have happened if the sled had been safely built. The funeral yesterday was largely attended, and the family has the sympathy of the entire community.
