Joined Co I, 1445th Illinois Infantry on 9 May 1864 at Bloomington, IL. Age given as 34; residence as Old Town, McLean Co, IL. Mustered in at Camp Butler, IL on 9 June 1864. Died 20 July 1864 at Benton Barracks (St. Louis), MO. (Note the different death date)

He had three children in the Soldiers Orphan Home, Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa, between Oct 1865 and Jan. 1867: Emily, age 12, Hannah, age 9, and John F. Bray, age 11. Their home county was Mahaska Co., Iowa.
