John Herritage Bryan

U.S. Congressman. He attended New Bern Academy, graduated from the University of North Carolina, in 1815, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1819 and commenced to practice law in New Bern, North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina State Senate, (1823-24) and a trustee of the University of North Carolina, (1823-25). In 1825, he was elected as Jacksonian to the Nineteenth Congress and as an Adams to the Twentieth Congress, serving until 1829. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he practice law and was trustee of The University of North Carolina, until his death at age 71.
