She was the daughter of Johann Sperber and Christina Hofmahler. She was born in Altensitzenbach, near Nurnberg in Baiern, Germany. The couple wed on October 12, 1856, in the presence of her father. Both were German immigrants, Heinrich from Hitzerode in Curhessen.
