Enlisted at age 18 as a private in Company D, Ohio 8th Infantry Regiment on 15 Jun 1861. Mustered out on 31 Aug 1861. Transferred to the Regular Army Hospital Stewards Infantry on 31 Aug 1861. Discharged 14 July 1862 for disability.

He may have died in 1866 in Arizona

Note: His father also served in the Ohio 8th Infantry Regiment as a surgeon from 2 May1861 to 22 May 1866.
