Discrepancy: Her headstone indicates she was born in 1841; this is incorrect. She was born in 1838. Martha is often confused with her sister, Jane Pilkington who was born in 1840. Others have gone so far as to call her Martha Jane; but this too is incorrect. Her sister, Jane was married to Samuel Ammons in 1863.

Mary Pilkington was the daughter of Nathan Moses Pilkington and Ruth Jane West.

She was first married to William Wilson on 10 Nov 1860 in Macon County, NC.

Her second marriage was to John William Cline; son of Absolum Cline and Rhoda Kirkland.

Mary and John's marriage would not last, and John would remarry in 1890; he died at his home in 1916 and was buried at Bryson City Cemetery.

"Polly" as she was commonly known, would die at her home on Forney's Creek as the result of dropsy.

She was 74-years of age.
