Reuben M. McMillan was born on October 7, 1820 in the Canfield, Ohio area. He was the son of John McMillen and Mary (McKinney) McMillen.
Self educated after grade school he went on to teach and start the Library system in Youngstown, Ohio. The main Library in Youngstown still is known as the "Reuben M. McMillan Library".
Reuben was united in marriage with Susan S. Campbell on August 30, 1849.
Reuben passed away on June 23, 1898 and was interred at Oakhill Cemetery in Youngstown. He was survived by his wife. They had no children.
