My Beautiful Grandma Wells ♥ She was so very special to me. Grandma was the 5th child of 11 children born to Anna and Alex. She was the youngest of only two daughters. Three brothers died in infancy, two others passed before reaching adulthood and another was struck by lightening at age 32. Grandma was so touched by the death of her brother, Ralph, who died at 13 from being struck with a rock from another boy and her brother, Walter, who was staying with her when he died from the lightening strike, which she happened to witness. As she told her story, I could see the sadness and pain in her face.

She told many stories and, again, I wish I could remember them all. There was the chamber pot story where she didn't have to take the girls outside to the bathroom at night. How she lost a finger while trying to turn off the fan in the dark. She told of how stern her own mother was about wearing make-up and that she had to go to her sister Lena's house to get ready for a date with Grandpa. Grandma's parents were devout in their Baptist faith and practiced it daily. Evidently, that meant no makeup and no dating. Her brother moved out of the house because of that, according to Grandma.

There were ten grandchildren and most of us loved to spend the night with her. Her rule was no more than two and we had to take turns. She was also my caregiver whenever I got sick and couldn't go to school. Mother would drop me off on her way to work. Grandma also let me help her with her Sunday School projects. She taught classes at Chelsea Baptist Church where she attended services on Sunday and Wednesday.

Grandma was the perfect example of a perfect Grandma. Beautiful inside and out ♥ loving, caring and giving. I miss our morning phone calls, visits and family holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. I miss her cooking and baking ♥ no one could meet her standards. Her flower garden was as beautiful as she was. Memories of strolling through the garden while she watered her plants, gazing into the mirrored globes and smelling the wonderful scents of each flower are memories that will remain forever.

I love and miss her so very much and am so grateful to have had a wonderful grandmother like my Grandma Wells!
