Alice was a daughter of Spellisby G. Coleman (1803-1882) and his wife, Wilmuth T. (Hodges) Coleman (1815-1896).

The following is from the Friday, September 30, 1938 issue of the Winfield Daily Courier:

When Mrs. P. F. Brashear, 83, died at 10:10 p.m. Thursday, a marital companionship of more than 64 years was severed. They have made their home in this city since 1906.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Morris funeral home after which the body will be taken to Pond Creek for burial.

Death ended a long illness, one which was augmented when Mrs. Brashear fell about a month ago and broke her hip. She died in Newton Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient since the accident. Before that, she had been in failing health and has been an invalid for several years.

Mrs. Brashear, with her husband, came to Winfield from Pond Creek where the family had lived only a short time. Previous to that, the family lived for several years at Burden (Kansas).

On December 12, 1854, Alice Coleman was born at Larue, Kentucky. Nineteen years later, she was married to Mr. Brashear and in a short time they went to Missouri. From there, the family went to Wellington (Kansas) to establish a home north of town. They left Wellington to go to Oklahoma and, after a time, returned to Kansas to live near Burden. After several years there, the Brashears again went to Oklahoma but only lived there a short time before coming here.

Survivors of Mrs. Brashear include her husband, 4 children - H. B. of Watova (Oklahoma, Mrs. Ben W. Bird of Pond Creek, Mrs. James W. Best of Kansas City, Missouri, Otto M. of Winfield, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter who was buried in the Pond Creek Cemetery. Three of the 4 children were with the mother during the past several days of her illness. H. B. was the only one absent.
