BERKEBILE – Albert L., 84, Johnstown, died Sept. 14, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 11, 1921, in Johnstown. Survived by wife, Ruth (Housel) Berkebile, married Oct. 5, 1946; children, Connie Berkebile; Terry, and wife, Nancy (Smith) Berkebile; and Rod, and wife, Alice (LoBoi) Berkebile, all of Johnstown; and sister, Ruth (Berkebile) Cuppett, Johnstown. Preceded in death by parents, Harvey and Emma (Berkey) Berkebile; infant sister, Mary Ellen; half brothers, Clair and Lowell Berkebile; and half sisters, Celia Detwiler and Vivian Mock. Also survived by brother-in-law, Gene Housel, and wife, Annabelle, Bedford; and sisters-in-law, Janie Banner and Mildred Housel, all of Bedford; Anna McNamara, Schellsburg; Joan Rouzer, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and Lillian Housel, Orlando, Fla.; and grandchildren, Justin and Angela Berkebile, Marcus Curcija and Lauren and Lindsay Berkebile, Johnstown area. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and served for 3 1/2 years in the European Theater. Member of Carpenters Union 1419; American Legion Johnstown Post; lifelong member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren; Climbers Sunday school class; and the church board for many years, serving on the Properties Commission and the church choir. Mr. Berkebile was retired from the Wilson Cons. Co. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Geisel Funeral Home, Dale. Funeral service will be held at noon Saturday in the Geisel-Devlin Memorial Chapel, the Rev. Michael Clark. Interment, Berkey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren Maintenance Fund.
