During WW1 he served as a Lieutenant with the Gloustershire Regiment and the Army Pay Corps.
On July 20th 1918, he relinquished his rank of Lieutenant on account of ill health because of wounds.
He served as a councillor on Londonderry Corporation and as a Justice of the Peace.
