US Congressman. Born in Nicholsville, Ohio, he worked on a farm, studied to be a teacher and taught at Pendleton School Point Pleasant, (1899-1900). He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1906, taught at Miami University Ohio, (1906-15), was Mayor and City Councilman of Hamilton, Ohio, (1928-42) and a member of the Ohio State Senate, (1942-46). In 1947, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress, serving until 1949. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a lecturer in the finance department of Miami University, (1949-50) and was a special representative for an insurance company in Hamilton, Ohio, from 1954, until his death at age 72.
