Rev. Arvle O. DeVaney, aged 76, of Howard City, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 11, 2003 at Butterworth Hospital. He was born March 22, 1927 in Rockwood, TN, the son of Carl and Ada Moore DeVaney. Arvle served churches in North Branch, Pontiac, Michigan, the Woodward Ave. Baptist Church in Wyoming, the Victory Baptist Church in Sand Lake, and most recently he taught the Senior Saints class at the First Baptist Church in Howard City. Arvle enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. On November 8, 1947, he married Joyce LaRue, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, William (Janice) DeVaney of Bluffton, SC, David (Leisa) DeVaney of Whitmore Lake, MI, Stephen (Donna) DeVaney of Howard City, MI; two daughters, Peggy (Christopher) Johnson of Pinckney, MI, Catherine (Robert) Cheyne of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth (Mariam) DeVaney of Vicksburg, MI, Frank (Ruby) DeVaney of Lapeer, MI, William (Sally) DeVaney of Lapeer, MI; two sisters, Jo (Dan) Hall of Lapeer and Shirley Hill; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will take place on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor John Dawson officiating. Burial in the Reynolds Cemetery. Friends may call at the Heckman Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and prior to services on Friday at the church.
