John was the oldest son of farmers Manelius C. & Celia (Farley) Caldwell. He was a building contractor in Princeton. He married Vira Farley in Summers Co, WV on June 23, 1904, and they had a son, Lloyd Clyde Caldwell.

John Lloyd Caldwell, a retired Princeton building contractor, died in a Princeton hospital Sunday morning after an extended illness. Born in 1877 in Summers County, Caldwell was the son of the late Nealus and Cecelia Caldwell. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Princeton for the past 50 years where he owned and operated Caldwell and Caldwell Building Contractors. Caldwell constructed many of the churches in Princeton and several business establishments.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Vira Mary Farley Caldwell. Survivors include his second wife, Mrs. Willie Winfrey Marcum Caldwell; one son, Clyde Caldwell of Princeton; one stepson, James Marcum of Stuart’s Draft, Va.: and two grandchildren. He was the last survivor of the immediate family. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the George W. Seaver Chapel in Princeton with Rev. J.C. Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Park Cemetery in Princeton.
