LIEUT. IRVIN WEST KILLED IN ACTION

MARION - Mrs. Alice Monroe West of Marion was notified last week by the war department that her husband, First Lieut. Irvin W. West, was killed in action in France July 18. The death message came three weeks after the official report that the young officer had been missing since that date.

The only child of Mrs. Bessie M. West and the late William F. West of Richmond, Va., Lieutenant West spent most of his early life in South Carolina where his father was in the lumber business. He was a nephew of M. M. West, prominent lumberman of Marion.

Lieutenant West passed his 25th birthday July 17, the day before his death. His wife makes her home in Marion with her father, Howard R. Monroe, Sr.

Note:
There is another marker for Irvin at Maury Cemetery in Richmond Virginia. On that marker it states that Irvin is buried in La Cambe, France. Until 1947, La Cambe was an American cemetery when the remains were exhumed and shipped to the United States. It has been a German cemetery since 1948.
