Olive A. Ringsrud, prominent educator and leader, died in a Los Angeles, Calif., hospital August 24, 1971. Some time ago she was injured in a fall, resulting In complications which caused her death.

Born February 7, 1892, in Union Co., S.D. to parents Ole and Anna Eidem Ringsrud, she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Educated in the local district school, Elk Point High School, Southern State' Normal School and the University of S.D., she spent more than 25 years as a rural elementary teacher in this state. For several years she taught in the Huron, Platte and Corsica communities and in several schools in her home county. A Silver Anniversary Recognition party was given in her honor at the Cleveland District School, Beresford to commemorate her work as an able educator.

In 1938 Miss Ringsrud entered politics as the successful candidate for Secretary of State for S.D. where she served two terms. The state's first Secretary of State was her uncle, A. 0. Ringsrud. Following an unsuccessful try for the UJS. Senate seat she lived in Washington, D.C. where she served as a private tutor and Norwegian translator for one of the War Agencies.

Miss Ringsrud continued her work as translator in 1945-46 with the newly formed United Nations in San Francisco, Calif. Later she located in Los Angeles where she taught in that area for 17 years and continued private tutoring. With her widespread circle of pupils and friends she received hundreds of cards and letters each year.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Tilda Johnson, Beresford, and 3 nephews and 4 nieces.

Funeral services were held at Forest Lawn August 30, 10:30 a.m. in the Little Church of the Flowers, with interment at Forest Lawn, Glendale, Calif..
