Harry F. Markley, 87, a Grinnell Corp. retiree, died Thursday morning at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness. A resident of 624 S. 12th St., Columbia, he was the husband of the late Violet Reigle Markley, who died in 1988. Markley retired in 1971 after 47 years as a mechanic and maintenance worker at Grinnell Corp., Columbia. He was a member of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers Union, Local 376. He was also a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late George and Mary Dettimer Markley. Surviving are five sons: Carl H. and Jay K., both of Columbia; Larry, Elizabethtown; Lee, Lancaster; and Barry, Wrightsville; five daughters: Betty, wife of Leroy Derr, and Victoria Waugh, both of Columbia; Shirley, wife of Marvin Smith, Marietta; Yvonne, wife of George Scantling, Wrightsville; and Audrey, wife of Reuel Whipple, Sunbury; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
