Mildred M. Verwaayen,97, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, died Friday,Feb. 20, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Survivors include a son, four daughters, 26 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren ; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Muriel,and a brother.
Mildred was born Jan. 9,1907, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Augustus and Alta Kinney Wiley. She married George R. Streeter in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced. She then married Henry J. Verwaayen on Aug. 18, 1960, in Sigourney. He died in 1989. Mildred was a homemaker and a member of the Jane Boyd Knitting Club. A memorial fund has been established in Mildred's name.
