He was born January 31, 1859 in Norway, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Mickelson) Jensen.
Funeral services were held June 28, 1940 at the Homme Home Chapel. Interment was in the Homme Home Cemetery, Wittenberg.

According to a letter from his daughter he changed his name to Bert Johnson when he entered the US his brothers used Revheim when they entered a year later.

He imigated from Norway to Chicago in 1881 and when his brothers (who used the name Revheim ) arrived he went with them to Mobridge, SD where they created a homestead. One of the brothers was Mons J. Revheim b: 1862 d: 1942 in Mobridge, SD. The other brother was Ingebrect Revheim b:1852 d:1933. Part of the farm is now under Lake Oahe, a Missouri River reservoir, and the higher ground is in the Revheim Bay Park.
Baste and Julia were married in Pierre, South Dakota when is not known probably after 1882.
When Gilbert was an infant in 1890 they moved to East Chicago, IN. Baste was a cabinet maker and woodcarver and he worked for the Rock Island railroad repairing Pullman Cars and then later for Kimbell Piano Co.
