On October 20, 2010, Jenni was diagnosed with high grade level 3 brain and spinal cancer (astrocytoma). She began undergoing aggressive treatments of chemotherapy and radiation until it was determined that the radiation was no longer having any effect.

She continued with chemotherapy until, despite all odds, she and Nathan found out they were expecting. On November 9, 2011 Chad Michael was born healthy, at 6lbs 3 oz and 19 inches long. Minutes before delivering Chad, Jenni told her nurse, "I'm done. I did what I'm supposed to do, my baby is going to get here safe and I'm done."

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Tom and Ann Black and Erma Harris, her grandfather, Eugene Frederick, her grandmother, Christine Heer, and her uncles, Steven and Will Frederick.

Memorial services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the El Rancho L.D.S. Ward Chapel (300 East Chapel Street). The family will receive friends on Monday at 11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please send donations to Manning-Wheatley in care of Jennifer Lake, or donations can be made directly to the bank account set up for Jenni at Potelco United Credit Union under "Jenni's Journey."
