OBITUARY

Ellen Hauser, the subject of this sketch, was born January 2, 1846, and departed this life March 1, 1915, being 69 years, 1 month and 29 days old.

She was born about three miles from Dutch Bethel, Owen County, Indiana, and here grew to womanhood. Her father and mother, John Louis Fulk and Mary Polly (Hawn) Fulk were among the early settlers of Owen County. In 1873, she was married to John Milton Hauser. To this union were born seven children: Sanford, Elmore, John, Isabel, Jane, Rachel and Mary. These, with a nephew, George Fulk, taken in infancy, were reared by this good father and mother till all were grown.

Happy home this was, where peace and contentment reigned and where friend or stranger alike shared their hospitality. But alas, the death messenger came, and in a short brief time Rachel, Jane and the father were called away.

At an early age she united with the Christian Church at Dutch Bethel and lived a consistent Christian until her death, and thoughts and conversation were often about this church and its people. Her Christian character and love were shown in many acts of life in helping and caring for orphans and people in need. To these, as well as to everyone who knew her, the name "mother" will never be forgotten. Such acts of charity cannot be awarded in this world, and she has gone to that haven of rest to receive her award.

She is survived by four brothers, three half brothers, five children, 21 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn their loss.
