Son of Johann Georg Schairer & Christine Magdalene Rühle.

Married Sophia Fredericka Sorg Feb. 5, 1872 at Saline, MI.

George learned the carriage and wagon maker's trade in Ann Arbor with Lawson and Wooster, staying with them 3 years. He then went to Cleveland, OH, from there to Chicago, then to St. Charles, Il, and located in Leavenworth, Kansas where he worked at his trade for 3 years. He later came back to Chicago and from there to Saline, MI, and in 1870 entered into partnership with his brother, John, who later removed to Texas.

Pioneer Called To Rest. One by one the older ones of our village are being called to the other shore. George E. Schairer, who came to this place in the early seventies and with his brother, John, purchased the dwelling house and shops on West Michigan avenue, where he has continued in business until recently, when failing health caused him to give up the heavy work, continuing only his rack trade, died at his home on Fri-' day, July 2, 1915. Mr. Schairer was born in Ann Arbor, August 2, 18-15, and was the oldest of the twelve children of George and Christina M. Schairer, and his death is the first among these children since 1859, when an infant daughter died. On February-5, 1872, he was married to Miss Sophia F. Sorg, who died on 'July IS, 1882. Mr. Schairer has at times been active in politics and the village government, having served on the board of trustees several times. He also was a member of the Masonic order. Deceased is” survived by two sons, Capt. Edward O. Schairer of the Philippines Constabulary, now located at Taclobm, Leyte, Philippine Islands, and Otto S. Schairer of the Westinghouse Electric Co., at Pittsburgh, Pa., and two daughters, Miss Bertha J. Schairer, who has for many years kept the home, and Miss Eva S. Schairer, teacher at Pontiac; also one grandson George Swift Schairer, of Pittsburgh. Mr. Schairer is also survived by lour brothers, John J. of Clint, Tex., Aaron M. and Jesse E. oi Nebraska and D. Frederick of Ann Arbor; and six sisters, Mrs. Marie M. Otto of Kalamazoo, Mrs. C. J. Reimold of Buffalo, Mrs. Sarah Giffert,. Mrs. Samuel Krause and Mrs. W. W. Huelster of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Stuefer of West Point, Neb. The funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon, and later at Oakwood cemetery with the usual Masonic ceremonies.
