Curtis Jackson "Jack" Hodges, age 73, Princeton, W.Va., died on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born on December 20, 1937 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Reverend James Andrew Hodges and Inez Leah Hedrick Hodges. He had lived in Princeton for the past three years and had formerly lived at Windmill Gap for 30 years. He was retired from the Deep Star Coal Mine located in Algoma after 30 years of service. He was a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Andrew Hodges; and three sisters, Nancy Myers, Norma Price and Willie Rae Lucius.
Survivors: Wife, Sylvia Palomino Hodges of the home; daughters, Linda Marie Powell and husband Steve of Bluewell, W.Va., Victoria Ann Firer and husband Jim of Illinois, Christine J. Pruitt of Princeton, W.Va., Loretta Champ and husband Johnnie of Princeton; son, Andrew Hodges and wife Nikki of Charleston, W.Va.; sisters, Pamela Shumate of Bluewell, W.Va., Carol Mitchem of Lashmeet, W.Va.; brothers, Benny Hodges of Crumpler, W.Va., Roger Hodges of Rock, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Reverend Cecil Shrader and the Reverend Roger Walton officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where the West Virginia Honor Guard will conduct military graveside honors. Pallbearers will be Joe Hodges, Eddie Hodges, Joey Gregory, Bobby Gregory, Tom-Tom Shumate, Earl Toombs, and Evan Gills.
Friends may call on Saturday afternoon from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
The Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
