Ruth Maynard Pellow was the daughter of Arthur E. and Bertha Ashley Maynard of Blackhall (a section of Old Lyme), Connecticut. She was the oldest of six children, four brothers: Clifford A., Harry A., Russell I. and Kenneth L. Maynard, and a 20-year younger sister, Marjorie A. Maynard. After the family relocated to Middletown, Connecticut, Ruth graduated from Middletown High School. She married Edward George Pellow of Middletown, a son of Thomas and Emma Farnsworth Pellow, on October 17, 1925. They became the parents of a daughter, Jean Maynard Pellow in 1926 in Southington, where they continued to live for 32 years. Jean married Richard Albert Homewood of Wolcott, Connecticut in 1950, and subsequently made Ruth and Ed the proud grandparents of: Kathryn, Linda and Richard Homewood.
Ruth was an active and involved member of the First Baptist Church of Southington, serving as a trustee, and was a member and treasurer of the Women's Association. Ruth and Ed enjoyed camping at Hammonasset State Beach in Madison, which they did for many summers; they also enjoyed gardening, especially the raising of gladiolas.
