OBITUARY

Arlie Gene Archer, 83, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at the Rawlins County Hospital in Atwood, Kan.

Arlie was born June 30, 1927 to Harry and Esther West Archer. Arlie was raised on the family farm just over the Cheyenne County, Kan., line.

Arlie was inducted into the Signal Corp at Fort Logan, Colo., on Jan. 6, 1946 and served until April 25, 1947. He took basic training at Fort McClellan, Anniston, Ala., and special radio training at Vent Hill Farm Station, Arlington, Va. Arlie served in headquarters and headquarters ompany of the Army Security Agency in office personnel, Washington, D.C, He received an honorable discharge on April 25, 1947 with a rank of T-5. He also received the WWII Victory Ribbon.

Arlie married Delores Wendland on June 6, 1954 in Benkelman, Neb. They made their home in McDonald, Kan. To this union, three children were born: June, Joyce and Alan.

In June 1979, Arlie and Dee moved from their home in McDonald to the home they built on the family farm.

Arlie was a lifetime member of American Legion Chester Phipps Post 229, McDonald, 63 years. He was a lifetime member of both Masonic Lodge 404, 62 years, and Eastern Star 404, 61 years.

Arlie served 13 years on the area board of control for Northwest Kansas Technical College and 33 years on the Northwest Kansas Technical College Endowmwnt board of trustees. Currently he was serving the board as president.

Arlie was active in his community by serving on the McDonald Co-op board and McDonald and Cheylin school boards and as a council member at the Federated Church in McDonald and council member for the City of McDonald.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Esther Archer; and his brother, Ross Archer.

Survivors are his wife of 56 and one-half years, Delores of the home; son, Alan Archer of McDonald; daughters, June Archer of Los Angeles, Calif., and Joyce and husband, Billy McDaniel, of Valley Center, Kan.; and grandchildren, Megan Cram of Los Angeles, Calif., Faith McDaniel of Valley Center and Tristan Archer of McDonald/St. Francis.

Memorial service was held Jan. 13 at the United Methodist Church in St. Francis with the Rev. Morita Truman and Pastor Mark Adams officiating.

Memorials are designated to the Kansas Masonic Cancer Research Institute or Rawlins County Hospital.

Knodel Funeral Home of St. Francis was in charge of arrangements.
