Ethel was the fourth of eight children born to Carol Edgar and Augusta Elizabeth (Hildebran) Arndt. She married Marvin Garrison Fisher and they were the parents of four children: Rose, Lewis Marlow, Edgar Eugene and Glenda Colleen.

LONG ISLAND -- Ethel A. Fisher, 83, of Long Island Road in Catawba County, died April 17, 2003 at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, NC following several months of declining health and a serious illness of three weeks.
She was born August 11, 1919 to Carol Edgar Arndt and Agustia Hildebrand Sherrill Arndt, both of whom are deceased. She was married to Marvin G. Fisher on February 1, 1935 and they shared 38 years of marriage together until his death in September of 1973. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers, and four sisters.
She was employed in textiles and food services for many years. She was also a wonderful homemaker and her hobbies included gardening and working outdoors. Perhaps, though, her life was expressed most vividly by her many beautiful handmade quilts.
She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church of Long Island, NC where she served in many positions for over 65 years.
She is survived by three children, Lewis M. Fisher and wife, Mildred, of Matthews, NC; E. Eugene Fisher and wife, Linda, of Terrell, NC and Glenda F. Chapman and husband, Bill, of Taylorsville, NC.
In addition she is survived by eight grandchildren, including Rick Fisher and wife, Lori, Scott Fisher and wife, Ann, Dennis Fisher, Ed Fisher, Ellen F. Cline and husband, Andy, Gary Chapman and wife, Sonya, Laura C. Sprinkle and husband, Scott, Daniel Chapman and wife, Amy, and by nine great grandchildren.
Other surviving family members include one sister, Mrs. Nadine Bumgarner and husband, Richard; one brother, Mr. Fred L. Arndt and wife, Minnie, all of Catawba, NC; five sisters-in-laws, Ms. Cordelia Arndt and Ms. Alsie Arndt of Sherrills Ford, Ms. Usarley Arndt of Newton Conover, Ms. Vivian F. Elliott of Long Island Rd., and Ms. Viola Fisher of Asheville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, from 7 to 8:30 PM at Bunch Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville, NC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, at 2:00 PM at Olivet Baptist Church. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Interment will follow the service, in the church cemetery. Dr. David Mills will officiate.
