William R. Turner was born on October 22, 1914, in Laflin, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, one of nine children born to William H. & Mary E. (Thomas) Turner. He passed away on November 19, 1989 in Binghamton.

His parents moved the family to Oneonta, Otsego County, New York sometime before 1920. They lived in Binghamton by 1930.

He married Susie M. Short of Oneonta in 1935. They made their home in Binghamton, where they raised their three children. Susie Turner passed away in 1977.

He worked for D.& H. railroad for many years. He also was a Real Estate Broker & a member of the Broome County Board of Realtors. He later married Evelyn M. Schooley.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Nathan J. Turner and Thomas H. Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Turner, his children; daughter, Barbara Larnerd (now Mar Peter-Raoul), sons, William R. Turner, Jr., and Clifford E. (Buddy) Turner; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also six sisters; Mary Crandle, Lillian Briggs, Carrie Smith, Gladys Chodl, Edith Mickel, and Rachel Maben; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a hard working and successful businessman. He was also noted for his musical talents, his fun-loving personality, and for his quick-witted sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing card games. He was affectionately known as "Dot-Dot" by his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

His funeral was held on November 22, 1989 at the Primitive Methodist Church, Johnson City, with the Rev. Elvin S. Murphy officiating. Burial was in Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
