"Elloree – Mrs. J. H. (Katie) Felder Sr. died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Livingston Monday night. She was one of the oldest residents of Elloree and was the widow of John Hamilton Felder Sr. Funeral services will be held at the Elloree Methodist Church Wednesday at 4 p.m. with her pastor, the Rev. R. E. Seignieous in charge. He will be assisted by a former pastor, the Rev. J. C. Inabinet, Williams; the Rev. J. W. Middleton, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Elloree; and the Rev. J. L. Ballentine, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Elloree. Burial will be at the Jerusalem Cemetery near Elloree. Pallbearers will be John Wactor McCants, A.D. Wactor, Archie Wactor, Hubert Wactor and John Dukes Wactor Jr.
Aunt Katie, as she was affectionately known to young and old, was born in the Felderville section of Orangeburg County on March 19, 1878, the daughter of the late John W. Wactor and Mrs. Sarah Weldon Wactor. She spent her entire life in this community. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society; an honorary member of the Business Women's Circle; a charter member of the Elloree Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy; a member of the Elloree Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; a member of the American Legion Auxillary; and a former member of the Home Demonstration Club.
Surviving are two sons; John Hamilton Felder Jr., and T. M. Felder, both of Elloree; four daughters, Mrs. J. Kenneth Jones (Margaret); Mrs S. D. Berry (Gladys), Mrs. Charles Livingston (Katie), all of Elloree and Mrs. T. A. Gentry (Ethel) of Sumter: also, a foster daughter, Mrs. Fred Irick Jr. (Jean McEachern) of Elloree; a brother, John Dukes Wactor Sr. of Elloree, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren."
