Justin Loomis was born in Bennington, NY the son of Justin and Mary Rolph Loomis.
He was the second president of Bucknell University (then the university of Lewisburg) from 1858-1879.

January 16, 1838 he married Sarah Ann Freeman (daughter of Moses Freeman). Children: Harriet, Mary, Freeman, Warren, Emma, and Anne.
January 17, 1854 he married Mary Gilbert (daughter of Edward Gilbert). Children: Gilbert, Everett, Sarah and Caroline.
August 20, 1873 he married Augusta Tucker, daughter of Charles Tucker.
