Florence was the daughter of Betsy Yakambe Davenport.

Florence was born to Elizabeth Yakambe. By the circumstances that he observed, Edward Mitchell Everidge assumed his brother Joe Everidge was Florence's father. Thinking he (Edward) would make a better father than Elizabeth Yakambe was a mother, he went by horseback to Elizabeth's home and took Florence to raise. It is said that he then adopted Florence. Edward Mitchell Everidge was single at the time. He brought Florence to the old Everidge homestead at Frogville to raise. Florence was 3 years old at the time. Florence had originally been named Rosie Ella Brown by her mother. [Information from Florence's son Walter Edward McFarland]

Florence married her first husband, John Levy McFarland, on April 26, 1908 in Oklahoma. Sadly he died in 1928 of pneumonia. Florence then was married to Sanford Hightower for a short time before moving out to California, where she met and married Frank Meadows.

Florence died at age 52 in a head-on collision; her (third) husband Frank Meadows and step-mother Lula Covington were also killed. The three were en route to Santa Rosa at the time of the accident. Mrs. Meadows and her step-mother had lived in the Bay area since 1942.

Survivers mentioned in her obituary: daughters, Mrs. Mattie Palmer and Eza Mae Cowger, both of Richmond, CA; Marie Laine of Paris, Texas, and sons David Hightower of Richmond, CA; (Walter) Edward McFarland, a prisoner of the Japanese since the fall of Corregidor Island (May 1942) and Pfc (Calvin) Clark McFarland, US Army Engineers, serving overseas at the time of her death.

NOTE: Mrs. Lulu Everidge Covington was the step-mother of (Susan) Florence Everidge Meadows.
