The lives of three was pneumonia's toll this week in the Hiser home in Kinkaid Township, three miles southeast of Ava. Those who were called to their eternal home were Mr. Jacob M. Hiser, his wife Amanda, and their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Claud B. Hiser. Mr. Hiser passed away Saturday morning, April 21, 1928, at 4:00 o'clock, and his wife followed him in death two days later, Monday, April 23, 1928, at 5:30 o'clock p.m. The daughter-in-law, Mrs. Claud B. Hiser, following in death Thursday, April 26, 1928, at 1:00 o'clock a.m.

Rev. Marion Barringer conducted the funerals of both Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hiser and the bodies were laid to rest side by side in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Hiser's funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon at the Ava First Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock, and services were conducted for Mrs. Hiser at the same church at the same hour Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Claud B. Hiser's funeral will be conducted at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Ava, Illinois, Friday morning, April 27, 1928, at 9:00 o'clock. Burial will follow in the Ava Evergreen Cemetery.

Jacob M. Hiser and Miss Amanda Bower were united in marriage September 4th, 1873. To this union nine children were born, six of whom are living, as follows: Charles Hiser of Evansville, Illinois; Mrs. Wm. Sorrels of Grand Tower, Illinois; Mrs. Clara Ledbetter of Kinkaid Township; Grover P. Hiser of East St. Louis, Illinois; Samuel T. Hiser of near Ava, Illinois; and Claud B. Hiser who resides on the homestead, three miles southeast of Ava, Illinois.

Besides the children, twenty grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Hiser leaves one brother, Tom Hiser, of Oraville, Illinois; and three sisters, Mrs. Cynda Crisler of Murphysboro, Illinois; Mrs. Rebecca Ripley of Oraville, Illinois; and Mrs. Alice Williamson of East St. Louis, Illinois; and Mrs. Hiser leaves one brother, Lawrence Bower of Ava, Illinois.

At the time of death Mr. Hiser's age was 75 years, 4 ,omths and 14 days, and Mrs. Hiser's age was 71 years, 5 months and 1 day.

Jacob M. Hiser, son of Patterson and Hannah Hiser, was born in Levan Township, about three iles southeast of Ava, Illinois, December 7, 1852. He grew to manhood in the community in which he died. Uncle Jake, as everyone knew him, was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His last illness was of brief duration, although he had been in poor health for a number of years.

Mrs. Hiser was born November 22, 1856. She was a kind and loving wife and a good neighbor, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her final illness was brief, being but a few days.

Mary Mildred Hiser, wife of Claud R. Hiser, was born September 5th, 1903. At the time of death she was 24 years, 7 months and 21 days of age. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Shields, who reside six miles south of Ava and was the first of ten children to pass away. A few years ago she and Claud B. Hiser were united in marriage. The husband and one little daughter, Avis Lorene, eleven months old, survive. Other survivors are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Shields, of Kinkaid Township, and the following brothers and sisters: Martin Shields, Jacob; Roy Shields, Jacob; John Shields, Lawrence Shields and Miss Anna Shields, who reside with their parents; Mrs. Ed Korando, Raddle; Mrs. Tom Korando, Raddle; Mrs. Charles Korando, Raddle; and Mrs. Wm. Morrison, St. Louis.
