Gilbert Clio Simmons, 87, of White Hall died at 2:20 P.M. on Tuesday July 24, 2001 at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. He was born in Fredricktown,Mo. on Nov. 24, 1913 he was the son of the late Edmond and Sylvia Hess Simmons. On Sept. 2, 1939 he married the former Viola Crain in White Hall and she survives.

Also surviving are 2 grandchildren: Mrs. Darek "Kim Ann" Deitz of DesPlaines, Il. and Jim (wife Thelma) Simmons of Aurora, Il. ; 3 great grandchildren : Christopher Simmons of Manchester and Travis and Treaver Simmons of Aurora. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Sharon M. Simmons, a son: Travis T. Simmons, a brother: Edmond Simmons Jr. and 3 sisters: Gladys Blair, Vange Griffith and Kathelene Herron.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the White Hall Christian Church. He worked at Stateville Prison in Joliet until joining the Navy in 1944. He worked at the White Hall Post Office from 1947 until retirement in 1981. He was a member of the National Assoc. of Letter
Carriers Local 2315 and the White Hall American Legion.

Services were entrusted to Airsman-Hires Funeral Home of White Hall, Illinois.
