John Hack was born in Niederlosheim, Kreis Merzig-Wadern, Saarland . Settled with a large family on the western part of Prairie West in 1837. Two of his sons were residents of Crown Point, IN. One, M. Hack, kept the hotel, and died in 1873. The other, J. Hack, carried on a blacksmith and wagon shop.
