Francis "Fay" White Woolston
CENTENARIAN
1912 - 2012

Father: Joseph Owen White
Mother: Reva Maud Snow White
Spouse: Harold Worlton WoolstonFay White Woolston, 99, died peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Orem, Utah. Fay was born April 22, 1912, in Provo, Utah, to Joseph Owen White and Reva Maud Snow White. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts June 7, 1939, and received a Master's in Social Work from the University of Utah, June 10, 1957. She continued to work while getting both degrees. She worked for the Health Department, taught elementary school art, and served as a customer color consultant for Sherwin Williams Paints, before beginning a twenty-five year career in social work for the Utah County Welfare Department.

Painting was always Fay's love, however. Art introduced her to her husband Harold Worlton Woolston. Both were prize winning artists, and throughout their lives they were involved in Utah arts circles. Exhibiting their work throughout Utah was a shared passion. They worked in many media--watercolor, oil, pottery, fabric, and continued to hone and expand their craft in various workshops. Although Fay did not share Harold's passion for teaching art, she did enjoy discussing at length each work after a day painting together, whether in their studio or out in nature. Observing those discussions provided not only a lesson in art but also a window on a rich and vital relationship.

Fay and Harold married June 11, 1957, and were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 5, 1958. Through that marriage, Fay inherited Harold's three daughters--Mary Briggs of Provo (now deceased), Mique of Salt Lake City, and Claudia Woolston Harris of Orem, as well as twelve grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and nineteen great-great-grandchildren.

Fay lived a full and well-ordered life. Besides continuing to paint until the last year of her life, she loved to read, sew, and do hand work, knitting many warm caps for those in need. She donated generously to environmental and humane causes. She especially liked playing Dominoes every Wednesday with her artist friend Jane Bush; they also painted, discussed art, and exhibited together. Fay traveled extensively throughout the United States with her husband until his death at 87, May 28, 1993. Her brother Bob Owen White died at 94, March 22, 2011, and her other brother Dan R. White died at 78, January 22, 2012. Remarkably, all three siblings died within one calendar year.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Helen Fowler White of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by many good friends and neighbors, especially Kevin Crompton who provided her with much help and companionship. Kevin has also given a home to Fay's beloved cat Tami.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, March 9, 2012, at 11 a.m at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Provo City Cemetery.
