Born to Jesse Erwin Baxter & Eliza Jane Adams, in either Reynolds or Iron County, Missouri. Her mother died in a smallpox epidemic in June 1862.

They had 5 children, Nancy Jane Belk (b. 18 Sep 1888, d. 30 Nov 1981), Thomas Richard Belk (b. 08 Feb 1891, d. 10 Apr 1981), William Newton Belk (b. 14 Apr 1893, d. 13 Jun 1982), Pearl Mae Belk (b. 9 Oct 1895, d. 21 Jun 1964), and Herbert Lamon Belk (b. 8 Feb 1899, d. 12 Jun 1909).
