US Congressman. Born in Union County, South Carolina, he graduated from South Carolina College, 1818, taught in the public schools at Unionville, South Carolina and in the University of South Carolina. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in Union, South Carolina. He was a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives, (1830-31) and commissioner in equity of South Carolina, (1830-33). In 1833, he was elected as a Nullifier to the Twenty-third Congress, serving until 1839. After his term, he was member of the South Carolina State Senate in 1840 and Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina. He died at age 54 in Union, South Carolina.
