Waterloo Daily Courier, Sunday March 26, 1972: He was born March 23, 1884, in Cedar Falls, son of Samuel and Orrilla (Thomas) Shields. For many years he worked for local railroad companies in construction (and was a farmer with a farmstead just north of Washington Chapel off of Ford Rd.) Mr. Shields was a member of the Equity Lodge No. 131 of Janesville. He has no immediate survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Please note: this Frederick Shields was never married and had no children. Please don't confuse him with Fred E. Shields who lived in Missouri and was married to a Rachel Milligan.
