U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator. He engaged in mercantile pursuits at Concord, New Hampshire and was a member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, (1855-57). In 1861, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh, Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1867. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was secretary and treasurer of the Union Pacific Railroad Company. In 1876, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, serving until 1883. After leaving the Senate, he was president of the Boston, Concord & Montreal Railroad Company from 1886, until his death. His son Frank W. Rollins, served as the 47th Governor of New Hampshire.
