Alida Frances Gabriel was born on November 5, 1930 in Echo, OR to Manuel C. and Florence Picanso. She passed away on November 15, 2011 in Hermiston, Oregon at the age of 81 years. Alida was raised and attended school in Echo and Stanfield, Oregon, graduating from Stanfield High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Robert O. Gabriel on January 7, 1949 in Yakima, WA, and they lived in Stanfield. Alida worked at the Umatilla Army Depot, and then the Stanfield School District for 33 years until retiring in 1995. She moved to Hermiston in 2004 where she has lived since. Alida was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston, Hermiston Elk's Club and The Pollyanna's' Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, dancing, gardening and cooking; most of all, spending time with and cooking for her family and friends.

Alida is survived by her daughter Kathy Rankin of Hermiston and sons Craig Gabriel of Hermiston, and Greg Gabriel of Stanfield; sister Virginia Bissinger of Hermiston, and step-sisters Frances Curran of Corvallis, OR, Glendora Meyers of Richland, WA, and Louise Mary Rottach of St. Paul, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alida was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Robert O. Gabriel.

Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1 PM at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, Hermiston, OR.

Private family burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, Stanfield, OR.
