U.S. Congressman. Educated at Bingham Military School, he became successful in the lumber business at Aberdeen, North Carolina. He was Mayor of Aberdeen, (1890-98) and treasurer of the Aberdeen & Asheboro Railroad Company, (1894-1902). He was a member of the North Carolina State House of Representatives, (1901-02). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1917. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he engaged in banking and was president of the Page Trust Company until his death.
