Herbert “Herb” Roy Bush, 87, of East Palestine passed away at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at Essex II, Salem, following a short illness. Herb was born in Canton, Ohio, Dec. 27, 1915, to Oliver E. and Otella Coy Bush. The family moved to Salem where Herbert graduated from Salem High School in 1934 and Salem Trade School in 1936. Herb married Mildred Keller of Leetonia April 2, 1938. The couple resided in Salem where he worked for the Starbuck Plumbing and Heating Company. On April 1, 1941, the couple moved to East Palestine where he founded the Bush Heating Company from which he retired in 1979.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy SeaBees during World War II and was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Mr. Bush was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and the Wesley Weds Class in East Palestine.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the East Palestine Country Club and the Tomoka Oaks Country Club in Daytona Beach, where he and his wife resided during the winter months following his retirement. He was a 50-year member of the East Palestine Masonic Lodge and a 32nd-degree Mason with the order of the Scottish Rite and a member of Aut Mori Grotto, both in Cleveland. Additionally, Mr. Bush was a 50-year charter member of the V.F.W. Post 4579 and a member of the American Legion Post 31, both of East Palestine. Herb will be sadly missed by his wife, Mildred, a resident of the Glenellen Senior Suites in North Lima; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas L. (Linda) Bolon of East Palestine; and two grandchildren.
