Charles BIRCHFIELD who had been night watchman in Waveland and acted as town marshall previously died suddenly last Thursday morning while Mrs. Birchfield was at a neighbor's house. He had been in his usual state of health and was doing some chores about the house when he suddenly became ill and lay down for what Mrs. Birchfield thought would be for only a moment and no notice was taken of it, but when she returned she found him dead. Mr. and Mrs. Birchfield have resided in Waveland for about 7 years and have made many loyal friends. Formerly Mr. Birchfield was employed by the Mid State Steel & Wire company of Crawfordsville for 30 years. He was a member of the Milligan Memorial Church of Crawfordsville and of the American Legion, being a Veteran Of the Spanish American War who conducted military rites at the grave in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. David Canine and Rev. H.H. Elmore conducted the funeral from Proffitt & Son Funeral Home Saturday afternoon. There remains his wife, Ethel Rose Kincade Birchfield, a daughter, Mrs. Juanita (?) Underwood of Crawfordsville; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Foy, Chicago; Mrs. Laura Hawley, Yorktown Ind; Mrs. Violet Regan, Danville Ill and Kate Peacock of Crawfordsville.
