Rev. Babb was fondly called "the sporting parson" by editors and those who knew his affinity for the outdoors and his hunting and fishing expeditions. He was often called upon by groups to speak as he always drew a crowd for his entertaining way of presenting his subject.
He was the last pastor of the New Hampton Freewill Baptist church, before it became the New Hampton Community church after 1911. It was originally built as a Freewill Baptist church in the 1800's and is now on the National Registry of Historic places.
He pastored for some years in Mass. before the last one at New Hampton.
